Construction window cleaning in Cambridge Wawa

Construction window Cleaning in Cambridge Maryland Wawa store…

The Wawa in Cambridge will be open tomorrow after being closed for a month long remodel.  We were proud to be the window cleaner chosen to prep for the grand reopening.  The cleanup crew they hired before us didn’t do a great job on the windows, so we were hired to clean up their mess.

Personally I’m in Wawa almost everyday, so I as a customer can appreciate a clean, fresh looking store.

Do it yourself window cleaning

Do it yourself window cleaning.

Quick, easy professional tips.

Fall is here and that means right around the corner will be the time of year when everyone and their cousin is at your house. Unless you’re a single guy, and cleanliness doesn’t matter (only kidding of course 😉 you’re likely scrambling around your home getting things cleaned up and presentable. Last but not least on the list are your windows.

Here’s what you’ll need:

Zep Professional Glass Cleaner.

New/Clean Microfiber towels.

Step stool/ladders.

Hand sized shop bench brush.

Light weight shop vac.

Where to start…

In order to keep the project manageable, and your spirits high, it might be best to start on the larger, more difficult windows.  If you have storm windows, remove a few from their frames, and make sure to keep them next to the window they came from. Don’t do all the storms at once, as they can be a real bugger to reinstall, especially if they are mixed up.

     Cleaning the glass / Interiors

Use your shop bench brush and shop vac to clean out any dirt and leaves from the window sills.  You can even use some glass cleaner and a towel to get it really clean.  Make sure not to bring any of the dirt inside

Take a clean microfiber towel, and fold it in half to make a rectangle, then fold it in half again, making a square.  Folding it that way will give you 8 “sides” of the towel to work with.

Spray a “side” of the towel with the glass cleaner, giving it a quick two or three shots.

Apply this side of the towel to the glass, and soap the glass using vertical and horizontal strokes.  For larger pieces of glass, imagine 2 sq ft sized “boxes” and apply soap to that area, moving on to the next.

BEFORE the cleaner dries from the glass, take a second towel, folded into a square, and buff the glass dry.  It may take a couple applications and a few towels if the windows are very dirty.

 Cleaning Exteriors / Removing Screens

If you have fold in windows, simply move any furniture blocking the window, fold the window in, both top and bottom, and clean them the same way as the interiors.

If your windows don’t fold in, and you need to access them from outside, it’s time to remove the screen.  Make sure when removing the screen, to place it next to, or directly in front of the window it came from. Also be careful not to track any dirt or bugs into the house from the bottom of the screen frame.

*Please note, if you plan on cleaning the screens as well, take them outside, only a few at a time, and organize them into stacks.  Use a shop brush, and have a garden hose handy.  Wet the screens with the hose, and brush them gently, then rinse them off.  Create a separate stack of clean screens, and let them air dry for at least 20-30 minutes.

After the necessary screens have been removed, go outside and set up a step ladder or extension ladder and clean the windows using the same techniques as before.  Make sure to double check everything the first time, so as to avoid unnecessary trips up the ladder.

Once a few windows have been done, reinstall the screens, and move on to the next batch.  That helps keep the project manageable, and easy to remember what has and hasn’t been done.

To keep them looking their best,  you should maintain the exterior windows by cleaning them at least every six months, and the interiors yearly.  That stops stains from attacking the glass, and gives you the opportunity to look for any warranty issues within new windows.

I hope this quick guide helps you with your fall cleaning projects, and gets window cleaning off your “to-do” list.

Why should you have your windows cleaned by Spot Services?

Why should I get my windows cleaned?

Some may wonder, “other than a clean view, what’s the benefits in having my windows done professionally?”.

Most homeowners should look into getting their windows professionally cleaned at least once if not twice per year.
A yearly cleaning will reduce the amount of dirt and debris on the window, and in the sill, and can reveal any problems before they get too far along. In older windows, clogged exterior drain holes can cause water to back up and rot the exterior facing wooden trim, or even the wall. With newer windows, a regular cleaning can help to detect windows with broken seals, which in many cases are still under manufacturer warranty, and may be eligible for free replacement.  Regularly cleaned windows also reduce the build up of hard water staining and calcium build up, if they are a problem in your area. Once set, hard water stains require a restoration process to bring them back to life.
Many real estate agents hire a window cleaning provider as one of the last steps before showing a home to be sold. A nice clean Window is one of those “background” items that further highlight a homes beauty, even though sometimes the acknowledgement is merely subconscious. On the contrary however, EVERYONE sees a dirty window.

Why hire us to clean your windows?

Our goal is to give you what you want out of a service provider, and make it a simple, pleasurable experience. We’ve gone above the standard “glass only” window cleaning service, and have chosen to offer window packages that include not just the glass, but the sills, screens, and even the sliding tracks as well. We want to make sure you get the most value out of our service. We recommend a “premium” service package for an initial clean, and a periodical “exterior only”, or a “Basic” interior and exterior cleaning as a follow up, to keep your windows looking great.

How are you going to clean my windows?

The advancement of technology is amazing. Over 100 years ago, patents were placed for window cleaning systems that simply used an extension pole, a brush, and a water source to clean windows from the ground without the technician having to use a ladder. The big problem back then were the water spots left behind by impure water and the lack of lightweight, rigid materials to construct the extension poles. For that reason, window cleaners have been limited to the laborious, and sometimes dangerous approach of squeegeeing each window by hand, either on the ground, or up on a ladder.
Within the past 10-15 years, water filtration and carbon fiber technology has improved to the point that the original “water-fed pole” concept is now a viable reality. A well made carbon fiber pole can now reach up to 70-80 feet, with only a single technician required for usage. The pole has a small diameter hose with a brush head at the end that supplies pure wate to the top, which has been filtered multiple times. Water filtration systems are now small enough to be mounted in a vehicle, at times even on a hand cart, and can both clean the water at a micronuclei level, and neutralize the natural electrical charge found in the water. Once scrubbed, the glass is rinsed and the pure water dries spotlessly, without attracting any further dirt, and without any soap residue, leaving you with brilliant, shiny glass.
Interior windows are cleaned traditional style, with a mild, safe, soap and water solution, and squeegeed dry, and the window ledges are wiped clean.

So how do I get an estimate?

The FASTEST and EASIEST way to get an accurate, no obligation estimate from us is to visit our instant bid page spot-services.com/instant-bid and fill out a 60 second questionnaire, which will ask you how many windows you have, and what style they are. That will give you the same price I would in person, and as a matter of fact, is exactly what I use when doing an in-person estimate.
If that’s not your thing, you could easily shoot a few photos of the exterior of the windows you want cleaned, and email them to us, at info@spot-services.com and we’ll shoot you a price within 24 hours of our receiving the email. Or, if it’s a complicated project, call us and we’ll schedule an in person estimate to take care of you.
Either way, our goal is to provide the service you want, when you want it.

Thanks for taking a minute to read through this Q&A, look forward to hearing from you!

Paying someone to pressure wash your home shouldn’t be a dengerous decision, but it can be!  Some contractors still use ladders and high pressure to get rid of the dirt and grime. NOT US!  We work smarter, safer, and faster with our industry standard, soft wash system.   We can clean up to 3 stories safely from the ground, with LOW PRESSURE.  Thats right, in most cases, no ladders are ever used.  Our soaps clean the surfaces microscopically, and work far better than just high pressure.  Depending on what package you choose, we will even get rid of those ugly black streaks on the gutters with a gutter whitening service.

Cleaning Windows at the Historic Robert Morris Inn, Oxford

Cleaning The windows at Historic Robert Morris Inn

Cleaning The windows at Historic Robert Morris Inn

We got the call for a window cleaning at the historic, world renown Robert Morris Inn located on the waterfront of beautiful Oxford Maryland a few weeks ago. It was a pretty large job, no not because of the size of the building, but rather because of the quantity and type of windows involved.  All counted, there were close to 700-800 pieces of glass in the hotel.  They varied between some of the original, and very old, French panes, as well as the storm windows that had been added later on.   All of the storm windows were dismantled, the exterior of the French panes were cleaned, then followed the cleaning of the interior French panes.  Once the stationary windows were done, all of the storm windows were cleaned, one by one, and carefully reinstalled into the window from which they came. It was a long day, but everything turned out great!

How we provide estimates…

Face to face estimates not always necessary…..

So you’re interested in having some cleaning done around your house? You either Google search a company locally that will provide the service, or you get the name of a business from a friend or family member, and make the call. You briefly inform the company of the project you would like done and they will promise to give you an estimate within a short period of time……

That’s where the old world meets the new.  Most people are used to the idea of the contractor showing up in person with a tape measure to walk around their property and give them a price. While that still does happen from time to time, the internet has greatly changed the way we both research those businesses and the way, if we might saythose,  businesses research us.

With the Advent of such amazing features as Google Maps and other real estate databases, a contractor can get a good idea of the size of the project right from his computer.

When we receive a call for an estimate we generally will ask a few questions regarding the size and building type of the house.

House wash

For a house wash estimate we would like to know how many stories the house is, as well as an idea of the square footage of the house. The type of siding used in construction also makes a difference  in the price .  Also if there are any other smaller item’s you would like to have done that’s the time to mention it .

Roof treatment

For an algae and Moss roof treatment the questions would generally be the same as a house wash .  The only additional question we would ask would be of the home has gutters, and that’s for collecting the chemical treatment runoff.

Window cleaning

For a window cleaning, if you could give us a brief idea of how many windows you have and what type they are that would be awesome.  Generally these types of requests would need an in-person estimate due to the large variety  window cleaning manufacturers and types of windows .However we can use photos sent to us by the customer to formulate a price idea.  The fact that the customer saved us possibly hours of driving to come out and give an estimate is much appreciated and we would gladly take something off of the overall price.

Gutter cleaning

For gutter cleaning we will ask how many stories is the home and the square footage. We might also be able to access a database of satellite images and roughly generate an estimate of the linear footage of guttering. The main question that we would need to know though for a gutter cleaning, is if the home has gutter guards.  Gutter guards add a substantially larger amount of time and work to a gutter cleaning job.

Online estimate…

We found it convenient for both us and the customer to add the ability on our website for someone interested in our services to answer a brief questionnaire and instantly received price quote for the job they’re interested in. These prices are generally accurate assuming that the homeowners information reflects the actual job.

That cool feature can be found at this link…  http://spot-services.com/instant-bid/

Soft wash is the way to go!

Soft Wash House Washing In Cambridge

If you’re in need of an exterior house cleaning service, soft washing is the way to go. In a similar fashion as pressure washing, soft washing includes spraying a detergent on the house but unlike pressure washing, high pressure is not used to clean the surface.  With a dwell time of about 10 to 15 minutes the detergents are easily rinsed off of the siding and brighten up nearly any exterior surface.  We had a customer this past week in Cambridge who’s home was regularly power washed by another contractor. The homeowner told me that once the contractor would leave you could visibly see stripes in the siding from where he had used high pressure to clean it. This customer’s siding was slightly oxidized and chalky if you would run your hand over it. We were willing to change our soap detergent mix up a little bit and add an ingredient that would help with removing some of that oxidation. The overall result was great.

Soft Washing in Cambridge

Soft Washing in Cambridge

In this photo the house is still drying, and that’s why you see those light and dark marks. However once it was finished drying the siding was uniform in color and did not have any marks from the use of a pressure washer.

Once we got underway with the house while it was noticed that the sidewalk could use a good cleaning. We gave this customer and estimate over the phone comma so had not seen the property one-on-one in-person. Truthfully we do so many house washes throughout the course of a year that for us to give a face-to-face estimate for every single job we do is not realistic. With as little information as the size of the house and height of the house we can get you a price nearly instantly. With that basic price you can also add on other services including things such as sidewalk cleaning, or gutter whitening. Here’s a little snippet of the sidewalk we cleaned.

We’ve also had quite a few estimates for our newly featured low pressure roof cleaning.  It’s actually a vital service to help extend the life of your roof.  It removes all the algae and organic material that actually is EATING YOUR ROOF.  We use a low pressure system that applies a  detergent mix recommended by shingle manufacturers, which immediately – within 20 minutes- removes all the black algae streaks that develop on modern day roofing materials.  Each roof cleaning includes a 3 year streak free, which if any streaks reoccur during that time period, we will clean them for free.

Our low pressure house wash is completely safe for nearly all types of siding, and removes the mildew and grime right on time!  You can watch the green turn to brown, then see us wash it down.  Chances are, we’re in your town, so if you’d like a free estimate just call us and we’ll put your name and address down.  If you opt for our premium house wash, we’ll follow up with a wax application and a 2 year green-free guarantee!  IF you redevelop any green in the following two years after we do the work we’ll clean those sections for free, under your warranty.
